The Primary Series of Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga with Geoff Mackenzie
Session One: Sun Salutations, Standing Postures and the Closing Sequence.
Session Two: The first half of the Seated Series.
Session Three: The Remaining half of the Seated Series.
Session Four: We bring all components together in a non-stop flow through the Vinyasa Krama of Primary Series, counted in Sanskrit and exactly as taught at KPJAYI in Mysore, India.
All sessions will include:
- an overview of the fundamental techniques of posture
- breathing and gazing
- an overview of Vinyasa Krama methodology
- Sanskrit recitation of invocations, posture names and numbers
- Q&A / discussion of subjects related to the Ashtanga practice.
It is considered a therapeutic application for establishing general health in the human system, targeting the digestive system in particular and the main joint complexes of the body in general.
Traditionally it is learned daily over weeks and months, sometimes years, one posture at a time, at a pace which considers each students’ unique capacity. However, it can also be offered as an effective guided class when presented intelligently to experienced yoga students.
